Abstract

The purpose of the research was to know how the use of English songs can improve the students’ pronunciation ability and to know the differences oof students’ pronunciation ability between the those who active in listening to English songs and those who are not (passive). The researcher conducted this research as quantitative research and the data of this research obtained from questionnaires and test, and it was conducted using survey method. The 2nd semester students of English Education Department in Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto are the subject of this research. The questionnaire contains 10 statements and the test contains 25 items. The findings revealed that the use of English songs in teaching can improve the students’ pronunciation ability, and there are the differences on students pronunciation ability between the those who are active in listening to song and those who are not, the differences are confidence and fluency. The use of songs in learning gives more benefits for the students, such as giving students relaxation, interest and fun, and also through emotions and feelings. It is recommended that the teachers and the students can listen to songs as a strategy to improve their pronunciation skills.
