Abstract

Research on the processing of tofu wastewater has been carried out by
coagulation method using Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) coagulant. Tofu
industry liquid waste contains TSS (Total Suspended Solid) concentrations, COD
(Chemical Oxygen Demand), and BOD (Biochemichal Oxygen Demand) which are
very high, therefore it needs to be treated before the waste is discharged into the
environment. In this study conducted by taking two types of independent variables,
namely the dose of coagulant and the slow stirring time. For variations in the
coagulant dosage including 300 mg / L, 400 mg / L, 500 mg / L, and 600 mg / L
and slow stirring time variations such as 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes and
35 minutes. This variation is used to determine its effect on decreasing TSS (Total
Suspended Solid), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), and BOD (Biochemical
Oxygen Demand). The results showed that the coagulant dose and slow stirring
time were very influential in decreasing the concentration of TSS, COD, and BOD.
The results of the reduction in the optimum TSS concentration at a dose variation
of 600 mg / L and the optimum slow stirring time at 35 minutes were 5000 mg / L.
While the results of the reduction in the optimum COD concentration at a dose
variation of 600 mg / L and the optimum slow stirring time at 35 minutes were
2352.25 mg / L. And for the results of the reduction in the optimum BOD
concentration at a dose variation of 600 mg / L and the optimum slow stirring time
at 35 minutes 4370.16 mg / L.
