Abstract

Agriculture is one of the important sectors that affect human survival. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused changes for farmworkers. This study aimed to determine the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on changes in household food consumption patterns of farmworkers in the Sariasih 1 farmer group in Bojongsari Village. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. In addition, the data collection was done by using interview and observation. The purposive sampling technique was used to determine the informants. Furthermore, the data analysis was carried out regarding the profile of informants, food consumption patterns of farmworkers, the influencing socio-economic factors, and the impact of Covid-19. The results showed that the majority of farmworkers in the Sariasih 1 farmer group were male with the age of over 50 years old. Each of them had 1 to 7 dependent family members. In terms of changes in household food consumption patterns of farmworkers in the farmer group of Sariasih 1, it was found that there was an increase in consumption of eggs and chicken due to the central government assistance in the form of staple foods within a period of 1 to 3 months. Moreover, there were several socio-economic factors affecting the changes in food consumption patterns such as price, income, type of work, lifestyle and communication. Based on the research, it was found that 18 out of 34 informants who had met the research criteria revealed that they were experiencing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
