Abstract

One of the problems faced by junior high school students in the 2013 curriculum nowadays is the low achievement of competence in writing narrative skills (fantasy stories). This study aimed to: (1) find out the necessity for teaching materials in fantasy story writing learning that suit the needs of students and teachers, (2) develop prototype teaching materials in fantasy story writing that suit to the needs of students and teachers, (3) find out the results of the developed teaching material validation in fantasy story writing, (4) figure out the results of the pilot prototypes of the developed teaching material in fantasy story writing. This was a development research (R & D). In this report, eight stages were conducted, namely: (1) analysis of potential and problems, (2) data collection, (3) product design, (4) design validation, (5) design revision, (6) product testing, (7) product effectiveness test and (8) product revisions. The results obtained from this study were (1) the need for teaching materials according to students and teachers which included four aspects ; (a) understanding and need for teaching materials, (b) the need for teaching materials, (c) the need for physical teaching materials, (d) the need for presentation and language of teaching materials. (2) data on the results of the validation of experts and Indonesian language teachers on teaching materials. Analysis of the results of expert evaluations on the material presentation aspect was 93.7; content / material aspects was 93; the language and readability aspects were 87.7 and graphical aspects were 97.2. In general, the assessment of the feasibility of teaching materials was fairly good. (3) The results of product testing in experimental class obtained the average post-test aspect of 80.40 with a standard deviation of 6.4; skill aspects 77.40 with a standard deviation of 7.63. (4) The results of product testing in the control class obtained the average value of the knowledge aspect 74.87 with a standard deviation of 6.73; and skill aspect of 71 with a standard deviation of 7.14. The results of the t table of the experimental class and control class on the aspect of knowledge obtained the value of t count 3.323 with t table 1.998. While the results of t table aspect skills t count 3.021 with t table 1.998. Based on the research, the conclusions from this study were comic-based fantasy story writing teaching materials were effectively used as teaching materials in learning Indonesian language material for fantasy story writing for Grade VII students in junior high school.
