The study entitled “Code Switching and Code Mixing in the Language of PKK
Women’s in Tayem Timur Village RT 04 RW 01 Karangpucung Sub-District of
Cilacap Regency” aimed at describing the form of code switching and code mixing
occurred during the meeting of PKK women and its supporting factors in Tayem
Timur Village RT 04 RW 01 Karangpucung. The research type was descriptive
qualitative. The data obtained were 95 utterances in the PKK womans meeting in
Tayem Timur Village RT 04 RW 01 Karangpucung sub district,Cilacap Regency. The
data source was obtained from the utterances which contained code switching and
mixing of Javanese language at the meetings of PKK womans in Tayem Timur RT 04
RW 01. Methods and techniques to provide data were 3 stages, namely distributional
and comparative methods with the basic techniques of recprding technique, notetaking
technique. Methods and techniques to analysis was in the written reports with
informal presentation methods. The results of the study discovered two matters. First,
the type of code switching found during th ePKK meeting in the Tayem Timur Village
RT 04 RW 01 Karangpucung Subdistrict was a internal code switching which included
10 utterances of Javanese into Indonesia, 6 Indonesian words into bahasa Indonesia,
and 3 language Javanese into Sundanese. Meanwhile, the factors supported code
switching in speech were due to the effect to speakers who expexted to change the
situation of the conversation, to adjust the code used by the opponent’s speech, the
effect of the subject matter, the presence of a third party, and just to be prestigious.
Secondly, the type of code mixing discoveredin the speech during the PKK meeting in
Tayem Timur Village RT 04 RW 01 Karangpucung Sub district was the insertion of
elemets in the form of words,phrases, and sentences in Indonesian speech into
Javanese. Meanwhile, the factor behind the code mixing in the speech during in the
PKK womens meeting was the identification of the registar role, where both speakers
and interlocutors indicated that they could not use Javanese Language consistently in
the discussion during the PKK meeting.
