Abstract

Energy use in Indonesia is gradually increasing from year to year based on community needs and activities. The current alternative energy product which is likely to be developed is bioethanol. Bioethanol requires a lot of organic waste, especially fruit waste which contains a lot of starch, sugar, and derivatives so it is very potential to be used as raw material for making bioethanol. Bioethanol is produced from several yeast groups, one of which is Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This study aimed to determine the potential of market fruit waste as raw material for bioethanol production and discover the optimal fermentation time for bioethanol fermentation from fruit waste. This study conducted a randomized block design (RBD) factorial pattern consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was the type of fruit waste substrate, the second factor was the length of fermentation. Each treatment was repeated three times. Data on the effect of fermentation time and variability of fruit waste substrate on the volume and yield of bioethanol were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (Anova) and continued with DMRT analysis with the condition of the results obtained significantly affected the parameters. The results indicated that the best fermentation time in producing bioethanol volume and levels was on the 6th day with an average bioethanol volume of 2.02 ml and a yield of 27.56%. The Anova test results presented that the type of fruit waste substrate and interaction between the types of fruit waste substrate and fermentation time did not affect the volume and yield of bioethanol.
