Abstract
The study aimed to discuss the implementation of the discovery learning
model on students' science literacy in virus material. The study was conducted
from July to November 2019. The population was the students of grade X of
MIPA (Mathematics and Science) class. The samples were taken by saturation
sampling technique. The samples were the students of grade X of MIPA 1 as a
control class and grade X of MIPA 2 as an experimental class. It was a quasiexperimental
research (quasi-experimental design) with a posttest-only control
group design. The instruments were written tests and observations. The
written test was used to measure aspects of content and literacy context, while
observation was used to measure aspects of the literacy process. The data
were analyzed by using the F test, Mann Whitney U-test, Kruskal Wallis test,
and eta correlation test. The results showed there was a significant effect of
the learning discovery model on students' literacy in the low category with a
value of 0.391. The effect of the learning discovery model on each aspect of
scientific literacy had different results. The effect of learning discovery
models on aspects of content was in the medium category with a comparison
value of 0.469. The effect of the learning discovery model on aspects of
interaction was in the medium category with a comparison value of 0.418.
The effect of the learning discovery model on aspects of the process was in
the low category with a comparison value of 0.262. Based on these results, it
can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the implementation of the
learning discovery model on the students' literacy in virus material in SMA
Negeri 1 Kutasari.
