Abstract

This study was carried out to analyze the Junior High School English textbook entitled “When English Rings A Bell”. Quantitative research was used as the method in this study. The data were collected through documentary by analyzing the content of English textbook with the content standard of BSNP. The result of this study showed that English textbook was categorized “good” by achieving average score of 85.4% from the four aspects. The three aspects classified “good” namely feasibility content (87.7%), the presentation (83%), and graphic (92%). And the last aspect was linguistic was categorized “fair” (79%). The strengths of this textbook are found on the material with basic competence, the content of the material (the daily life activities), the appropriate and acceptable instruction, balance between chapters and unit, good grammar, readable vocabularies and sentences, the cover design, the completeness of chapter titles, the readable of letter‟s size, and the suitable of text, illustration, and situation. While the weaknesses are found on the content does not develop all 4 skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) and the does not provide the enough interesting picture.
