This research aimed to find out: (1) the characteristics of farmer and collector who have social economy relationship in jicama farm, (2) the kinds of social economy relationship that attract farmer to have cooperation with collector, and (3) the motive of social and economy relationship between farmer and collector. This descriptive analysis research used simple random sampling technique to take 31 farmers as the respondents and census method by using the whole populations that involved 2 collectors as the samples. This research was conducted for 11 months which was from March 2019 to January 2020 in Kembaran Sub-district, Banyumas Regency.
The results showed that the social economy characteristics of farmer and collector included the productive age of the jicama farmers, low education, short period of the farm which was less than 5 years (61.29%), low income which was less than two million rupiahs (70.97%), and 2-3 family members to take care of (64.51%). The social economy relationship between farmer and collector was the cooperative relationship such as economy relationship of transaction, loan, bargaining. Besides, the social relationship did not affect the cooperation between farmers and collectors. The motive of social economy relationship between farmer and collector was that collectors needed the jicama from the farmers, while farmers got the seeds and capital loan from the jicama collectors. It is suggested from this research that a follow-up is necessary to be done by the agencies such as Agricultural Extension Center to give insight to the farmers so they can sell their own product and it might be necessary to make groups of jicama farmers to share their knowledge for better products.
