Abstract

Aquaculture has an important role in Indonesian economic development. African catfish (Clarias gariepius) is a freshwater fish commodity that has high economic value so it is widely cultivated at high densities. However, this cultivation can cause a decrease in water quality which can interfere with fish growth & endurance. Therefore, it is necessary to add immunostimulants and growth promoters to the feed so that the resilience and growth of fish remains high. Ginger rhizome (Z. Offiicinalei Roxb.) powder is one natural ingredient that can be used in feed. The study was conducted in August-September 2019 at the Zoology Laboratory and the UMP Biofloc Pond Wet Laboratory. The experimental design used RAL with 4 treatments and 4 replications. Treatment in the form of ginger powder in feed with various doses, namely P0 = control, P1 = 2.5 g / kg, P2 = 5 g / kg and P3 = 7.5 g / kg of feed. The parameters observed in this study were immune and fish growth parameters. Immune parameters include differential leukocytes and hematocrit, while growth parameters include weight gain, length gain, SGR, FCR, and feed efficiency. Supporting parameters include water quality including temperature, DO & pH. The data obtained were analyzed with ANOVA, followed by further DMRT tests, while the water quality data were analyzed. The results showed that the administration of ginger powder in feed significantly affected (P <0.05) leukocyte differential, hematocrit and weight gain, increase in length, SGR, FCR, and feed efficiency, with optimum dosage at P3 (7.5 g / kg of feed). This shows that the addition of ginger powder through feed can potentially be used to increase immunity and growth in the cultivation of African catfish.
