Abstract

The demand for public consumption of African catfish causes catfish cultivation/farming to be implemented out intensively. The cultivation is carried out with high stocking density, but if the cultivation management is not implemented out properly it can hamper the fish growth. To improve fish growth, this was applied by providing additional supplements through the feed. Fucoidan and turmeric are known to increase growth in fish, but so far there are no known reports of using a combination of the two as supplements through the feed to increase fish growth. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of combining the supplementation of fucoidan and turmeric on the growth of African catfish. The method used was CRD (completely randomized design) with treatment (400 mg fucoidan + 1350 mg turmeric extract) / kg of feed (P1), (800 mg fucoidan + 1200 mg turmeric extract) / kg of feed (P2), (1200 mg fucoidan + 1050 mg of turmeric extract) / kg of feed (P3), and control (P0) with 4 replications. The parameters observed were weight gain, length gain, feed efficiency, FCR, and SGR. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA at the 95% level and continued with the Duncans Multiple Range Test. The results show that the combining supplementation of fucoidan and turmeric significantly increased growth (p0.05). P0 was significantly different in all growth parameters but varied between treatments. This proves that fucoidan combination supplementation can be used for African catfish cultivation with an optimal dose (1200 mg fucoidan + 1050 mg turmeric extract) / kg of feed (P3).
