Abstract

African catfish (Clarias gariepius) is one of the freshwater fish
commodities with high economic value, relatively affordable prices and delicious
meat taste, causing consumer demand for African catfish to be quite high. This
condition causes the African catfish to be cultivated intensively. However, this
cultivation can cause a decrease in water quality which can interfere with the
growth & development of fish. Therefore, it is necessary to add supplements that
function as immunostimulants and growth promoters to increase fish immunity
and growth. One of the natural ingredients that can be used is noni (Morinda
citrifolia). The research was conducted in August-September 2019 at the Zoology
Laboratory of UMP. The study used an experimental method in the form of a
completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 1 control and 4 replications.
The treatment was giving noni fruit extract in the feed at various doses, namely
P0 = control, P1 = 3 g / kg, P2 = 6 g / kg and P3 = 9 g / kg of feed. The
parameters observed in this study were immune parameters and fish growth.
Immune parameters include differential leukocytes, while growth parameters
include weight gain, length gain, SGR, FCR, and feed efficiency. The supporting
parameters are water quality which includes temperature, pH, and DO. Immune
parameter data were analyzed using ANOVA and advanced DMRT test, growth
parameters were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test,
while water quality data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that
giving noni fruit extract in the feed significantly affected (P<0.05) the leucocyte
differential. Weight gain and SGR had no significant effect (P> 0.05) between
control and treatment. The results of data analysis of length gain, FCR, and feed
efficiency showed a significant effect (P <0.05) between control and treatment,
with the optimum dose at P3 (9 g / kg of feed). This shows that the addition of
noni fruit extract through feed can potentially be used to increase immunity and
growth in African catfish cultivation.
