Abstract
The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the discovery learning
model assisted by Schoology on the students' critical thinking skills of grade XI of
MIPA (Mathematics and Science) class on the material of the human reproductive
system. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Ajibarang. It was conducted online in
April 2020 due to the application of Study from Home (SFH) during Covid-19
pandemic. The populations were the students of grade XI of MIPA class. The
samples were carried out by using cluster random sampling technique, which
resulted inthe students of class XI MIPA 2 as the experimental class, and class XI
MIPA 3 as the control class. It was a quasi-experimental study (Quasi-
Experimental Design). The research design was Post-test Only Control Group
Design. The research instrument was a post-test question which was arranged
based on Ennis's (1996) critical thinking indicator in the form of a description.
The data analysis used in the research included: prerequisite test, analysis
difference test, hypothesis test, and Eta correlation test. The results showed that
the discovery learning model had a moderate effect on the students' critical
thinking skills as indicated by the Eta test correlation coefficient value of 0.499.
The students' critical thinking skill was measured using the average post-test
score obtained by the students, which was then categorized based on the scoring
frequency distribution table of critical thinking skills. The post-test mean score in
the experimental class was 69, which meant that the students' critical thinking
skills were fair. The post-test average score for the control class was 54, which
meant that the students' critical thinking skill was low. Based on these results, it
can be concluded that the discovery learning model assisted by Schoology has an
effect on the students' critical thinking skills of grade XI of SMA Negeri Ajibarang.
