Abstract

One of the solid wastes produced in the processing of tapioca flour is cassava peel. Cassava peel is still not widely used. One of the uses of cassava peels in the field of wastewater treatment is to make cassava peels as activated charcoal to be used as adsorbents in the reduction of organic substances in wastewater. This study aims to determine the effect of the dose of cassava peel activated charcoal and wastewater pH in reducing COD and TSS levels of tapioca wastewater using the adsorption method. Based on the results of the study, the best reduction in COD and TSS levels in tapioca wastewater was obtained at a dose of 30,000 mg/L with COD levels reaching 747.7 mg/L and TSS levels at 65 mg/L. Meanwhile, the best wastewater pH in decreasing COD and TSS levels of tapioca wastewater, respectively, was at pH 6 and 8 with a decrease in COD reaching 672.7 mg/L and TSS reaching 570 mg/L. From the data obtained, statistical tests were carried out using One-Way ANOVA for the dose and pH variables, the P-Value was smaller than 0.05, so it can be seen that the dose and pH variables affect the COD and TSS reduction of tapioca wastewater
