Abstract

In Indonesia, medicinal plants are also often categorized as biopharmaceutical plants. Commodities that contribute to the largest production and are the most widely used are a mixture of ginger with curcuma and a mixture of ginger with sand ginger. The high number of commodities on the market makes the public think of doubts about the authenticity of a product on the market. Analysis using FTIR spectroscopy needs to be done with a combination of chemometrics. Methods: standard powders of ginger, curcuma and sand ginger, formulations of ginger and curcuma, formulations of ginger and sand ginger analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy combined with PCA chemometrics. Results: The FTIR spectroscopy method was able to describe the spectrum profile of ginger powder producing four wavenumber regions, namely 3300-2700cm-1, 1300-900cm-1, 1900-1600cm-1, 1610-1475cm-1. The spectrum profile of curcuma powder produces four wavenumber regions, namely 3700-3000cm-1, 1400-1325cm-1, 1680-1620cm-1, and 1300-1100cm-1. The spectrum profile of sand ginger powder produces six wave numbers, namely 3000-2700cm-1, 1740-1705cm-1, 1680-1475cm-1, 1475-1400cm 1, 1400-1325cm-1 and 1300-1000cm-1. The FTIR method combined with PCA analysis can separate the mixture of ginger powder with curcuma powder and the mixture of ginger powder and sand ginger powder. Conclusion: FTIR spectroscopy method combined with chemometrics can be used to identify the mixed powder of ginger powder in mixture of ginger with curcuma, and a mixture of ginger powder with sand ginger.
