Abstract

Speaking is important skill to master for having good communication. To master speaking ability in English, students need good knowledge. Self-confidence is one of the factors. The research aimed to find out whether there is a significant correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking skill. This research used survey method with correlational study. The total number of participants was 60 students in sixth semester of English Education Department in Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. To obtain the data, the researcher used questionnaire for self-confidence score and students’ speaking score. The finding of the result was the r observed of the students’ self-confidence and speaking skill was 0.331 with level of significance was 0.128 which is greater than 0.05. It means there is no correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking skill.
