Abstract

This quantitative study aimed to investigate the influence of parenting styles and peers relationship on the social skills of children with special needs in SMP Al irsyad Al Islamiyyah Purwokerto. This study employed descriptive methods. The population was the students in SMP Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Purwokerto with the sample was 30 students with special needs who were obtained by purpose sampling technique. The data collection technique used in this study is a questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis, path analysis and hypothesis testing with multiple regression. The result of this study indicates the influence of mother's parenting style is 21.69% father's parenting style 18.15% peers at home 17.75% and peers at school 10.67% making a total of 68.3%. This means that the social skills of children by 68.3% are influenced by mother's and father's parenting style. peers at home and peers at school, while 31.7 % are influenced by another variables that are not examined by the researcher. The implication of this research is that parenting practices applied to children with special needs and peer interaction can actually affect the social skills of special needs.
