Abstract
The aim of the research was to find out the information about the students' perception on the benefits and weakness when using Google Translate in writing class. The method was survey method and using probable sampling. The sample were students from the sixth-semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in Academic years 2020/2021 with the total 82 students. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaires and interviews. The result of this research was positive perceptions. The benefits were 76,5% students agreed that using Google Translate as media for assisting in writing class and it was to translate sentence by sentence. Additionally, the spelling was 75,3% students claimed that google translate is potentially changed the meaning of a word which is different from what it means. Then based on the results of the interview, it was said that google translate was useful for assisting students in writing class and effective media, but students had to re-check the translation results so it did not change the original meaning.
