Abstract

The background of this research was the lack of earnest behavior or hard work attitude of students during social science subject in grade 5 of SD Negeri 2 Pasir Kulon. The study aimed to improve students' hard work attitude and learning achievement of fifth-grade students in the social studies learning process on struggle of defending independence using the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) with Gallery of Learning and auctioned questions. The subjects of this research were all fifth-grade students consisting of 27 students. There were15 male students and 12 female students. This research method used classroom Action Research (CAR) that was conducted in two cycles, each of which consisted of two meetings. There were four stages conducted in each cycle namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted in the second semester of the 2016/2017 academic year in social studies with the material of Struggle of Defending Independence. The instruments used were teacher and student observation assessment sheets, hard work attitude questionnaire sheets and student evaluation sheets. The results showed an increase in students' hard work attitude which was proven from the percentage of completeness in the first cycle that was 45.93% with moderate criteria, to 82.96% with very good criteria in the second cycle. The results of research on student achievement also showed an increase, as the result showed that the average value of students in the first cycle was 60.15 with 57.41% mastery learning increased in the second cycle to 73.61 with 81.48% mastery learning. In conclusion, classroom action research using STAD with the Gallery of Learning and auctioned questions on social studies subject can improve students' hard work attitudes and achievement in SD Negeri 2 Pasir Kulon.
