Abstract

The aim of the study is to analyze the relevance between the materials in the student book “Smart English” for grade X, XI, and XII Senior High School with the Core and Basic Competence in 2013 Curriculum in terms of Cognitive and Psychomotor domains of learning. This study used qualitative content analysis as its research method. The data were collected from the English student book “Smart English” for tenth, eleventh, and twelveth graders of Senior High School written by English Teachers’ Forum of Central Java Province. In this study, the materials in the textbook were classified based on the basic competence three as the cognitive domain and basic competence four as the psychomotor domain. The researcher evaluated the instruction of each material based on its relevancy with the cognitive and psychomotor domains action verb stated by Anderson and Simpson. The result of the study showed that in term of the relevancy of the materials in the textbook with the cognitive domain, in grade ten and eleven all of the materials are relevant, whereas in grade twelve there are 9 materials or 64,28% which are relevant, 2 materials or 14,28% which are partly relevant, and 3 materials or 21,42% which are irrelevant. The result of the study showed that in term of the relevancy of the materials in the textbook with the psychomotor domain, in grade ten there are 7 materials or 70% which are relevant, 1 material or 10% which is partly relevant, 2 materials or 20% which are irrelevant, in grade eleven there are 7 materials or 58,33% which are relevant, 1 material or 8,33% which is partly relevant, 4 materials or 33.33% which is irrelevant, in grade twelve there are 3 materials or 25% which are relevant, 2 materials or 22,22% which are partly relevant, and 4 materials or 33,33% which are irrelevant.
