Abstract

This study aimed to determine media literacy in the context of 21st century education in high school students in Banyumas Regency. This research was conducted in February-July 2019 in even semester of the 2018/2019 school year. This study used a survey method of sample survey. The study population was all high school students in Banyumas Regency. The sampling technique uses stratified random sampling technique of 392 students consisting of 315 students from State High Schools and 77 students from Private High Schools. Data collection techniques used were tests, questionnaires, and interviews. Data analysis techniques used quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results showed that the average score and assessment results of media literacy measurements were 3.34 (good) and 71 (good) which consisted of the ability to use media with a mean score of 3.38 (good) with 67.3 (good) , the purpose of using the media mean score of 3.77 (good) with a rating of 84.6 (good), testing the truth of the message media mean score of 3.07 (enough) with a rating of 74 (good), assessing the media message of the mean score of 3.28 (enough ) with an assessment of 73 (good), the influence of the average media score of 3.1 (enough) with a rating of 68.40 (good), interpreting the message of the media a mean score of 3.26 (sufficient) with a rating of 77.77 (good), the application of the average ethics a score of 2.79 (enough) with a rating of 73 (good), the creation of a mean media score of 3.08 (enough) with a rating of 63.66 (enough), and the use of media in a multicultural environment a mean score of3.05 (enough) with a rating of 59.60 (enough). The interview results show that 53-84% of students have goodmastery of all aspects of ability except aspects of testing the truth (38%). It can be concluded that the media literacy of high school students in Banyumas Regency is in the medium to good category.
