Abstract

The research entitled An Analysis of Assertive Illocutionary Speech Acts in the
Dialogues of Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 film by Guntur Soeharjanto aims to describe the types
of assertive illocutionary speech acts in the dialogues of the film. The research uses
qualitative descriptive approach. The researcher's role in the research is as a passive
observer. The research data are the utterances containing assertive illocutionary
speech acts in the film dialogues. The research data source is the film of Ayat-Ayat
Cinta 2 by Guntur Soeharjanto. The data are collected through listening and taking
notes techniques. The data then are analysed through pragmatic corresponding
method. The research instrument is the researcher himself (human instrument)
supported by data cards used for writing utterances data from the process of listening
to the dialogue of the film. The research result indicates that there are seven assertive
illocutionary utterances with 70 utterances data found in the dialogues of Ayat-Ayat
Cinta 2 film. The assertive illocutionary utterance of declaring becomes the most
dominant utterance with 19 data. The other assertive illocutionary utterance data are
18 data of informing utterance, 5 data of suggesting utterance, 8 data of boasting
utterance, 10 data of suing, 5 data of complaining, and 5 data of reporting.
