Abstract
The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Cutting Edge Application in teaching writing descriptive text at eight grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Sumbang in academic year 2019/2020. The treatment was conducted from 29th of July up to 3rd of August. This experimental research involved: experimental class consisting of 24 students and 26 students of control class. The experimental class was VIIIB while the control class was VIIIA. The test was used in collecting data namely pre-test and post-test. The test was writing descriptive essay. Statistical calculation gave 57.91 in pre-test and 71.54 in post-test experimental class. Meanwhile, the main score of pre-test and post-test in control class was 63.03 and 66.53. In short, there was an improvement from the pre-test and post-test for about 13.625 in experimental class and in control class was 4.5. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by using T-test. Based on the computation, T-test result was 2.484 and T-table for the degree of freedom (d.f.) = 48 was 1.677 in significance 0.05. It means that T-test result was higher than the T-table (2.484 > 1.677). It could be concluded that Cutting Edge Application was effective to teach writing descriptive text for eight grade students of SMP Muhammadiah Sumbang in academic year 2019/2020.
