Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out what strategies that are implemented by English teachers to teach reading comprehension. The subjects involved in this research were all of the English teachers in junior high school 6 of Purwokerto. The total numbers of the English teachers in that school are three teachers who teach English from students’ class VII, VIII, and IX. This research used descriptive qualitative as the research methodology. The instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire result showed that the number of implementation strategy used by teachers in teaching reading comprehension is 72% that it belongs to high category which means in teaching reading comprehension the teachers implemented any strategies. There are five strategies that are implemented by the teachers in teaching reading comprehension. Those are scaffolding, think-aloud, reciprocal teaching, SQ3R, and QAR strategy. In addition, from the result of the interview it is concluded that all of the strategies were implemented has a purpose to help the students comprehend the text well and get good learning outcomes.
