This research aimed to describe the types of assertive illocution speech act on the
host of “Mata Najwa” Talk Show on Narasi TV uploaded on Youtube in October
2018. This was a qualitative descriptive research whose data were the speech of
“Mata Najwa” host with Najwa Shihab as the data source. This research was done
through three stages that were data supply, data analysis, and data display. The
methods of this research were Uninvolved Conversation Observation Technique,
recording technique, and taking note. The data were analyzed using pragmatic
identity method followed by Determiner Constituent Analysis technique of identity
method. The data were displayed with informal method. Based on the results, it
could be concluded that the types of assertive illocution speech act on the host of
“Mata Najwa” Talk Show on Narasi TV in October 2018 included: (1) stating, (2)
announcing, (3) reporting, (4) hinting, (5) suggesting, (6) emphasizing, (7) urging,
and (8) expecting. The missing assertive illocution speech act was strengthening.
