Abstract
The study entitled Types of Directive Speech Act and Speech Act Strategy of Indonesian Language Teachers Of Grade VII and VIII at SMP Negeri 3 Bantarsari of Cilacap Regency in 2019, aim to know and to describe: 1) types of directive speech act used by Indonesian Language Teachers of grade VI and VIII at SMP Negeri 3 Bantarsari od Cilacap Regency in 2019, 2) speech act strategies in the directive utterances used by the teachers in 2019. This was a descriptive-qualitative research. The data ere the teachers‟ utterance containing directive speech act types and strategies. Data source of this research was the Indonesian Language Teachers. The data were collected using observation method with advanced techniques in the form of non-participatory observation, tapping, and writing. While the data analysis, the researcher used the distributional and identity methods. The results of this research indicated that: (1) types of directive speech acts contained in the teachers‟ utterances during the learning process consisting of five requestives, 27 question, 30 requirements, 6 prohibitive, 7 permisive, and 4 advisory utterances. (2) the speech act strategies contained in the teachers‟ directive utterances were bald on record strategy as many as 42 data, positive politeness strategy (15 data), negative politeness strategy (21 data), and indirect or off record strategy (1 data). The type of utterance most often used by the teachers was the type of speech requirements (commanding). Where as the most dominan speech act strategy contained in the teachers‟ directive utterances was the direct strategy (bald on record).
