Abstract
Making bricks by combusting causes air pollution problems. One solution
to solve this problem is to make creative innovations by making bricks without
combustions. Bricks can be made by adding cement and soil stabilizer chemicals
with a mixture of sample composition with shapes and sizes according to SNI-15-
2094-2000 which is 11 x 5 x 22 cm. This study aimed to find out the optimal
material composition and to find out water absorption and compressive strength
of bricks without combustion. Each sample was tested at the age of 14 days where
in the process of making bricks affected by weather conditions, especially in the
drying process, it takes 7 days in good weather conditions. However, when it is
humid, the brick drying process takes 14 days and affects the productivity and
quality of the bricks. In this study, 12 test items were made consisting of 2 types of
drying namely drying under the sun and by the air. 8 specimens were cut into
cube shapes with a size of 11 cm x 11 cm and all samples were tested for
compressive strength and water absorption, the remaining of 4 samples were
tested for physical and visible properties. From the results of the test and sample
analysis, the best test results obtained were on the A4 sample with air drying
which were assumed to have the highest compressive strength with the value of
13.50 kg / cm2 and the value of water absorption of 36.60%.
