This study aimed to describe the ability to write news texts for grade XII students of
SMK Negeri 3 Purwokerto consisting of four grades, namely grade XII Pastry, XII
Skin Beauty, XII Hospitality Accommodation 1 and XII Hospitality Accommodation
2 SMK Negeri 3 Purwokerto. This is quantitative descriptive research. The data in this
study are the ability to write news texts. The results of the ability to write news texts
for each grade were different. The Pastry class got the highest average score of 81, the
Skin Beauty grade got an average grade of 77.6. In addition, Hospitality
Accommodation 1 got the lowest average score of 75.7. The Hospitality
Accommodation grade got an average score of 76.3. Of the 126 students, 19 students
scored 86-100 in the excellent category with a percentage of 15.1%. In addition, 52
students got grades of 76-85 which were included in good categories with a
percentage of 41.3%. There were 53 students who were in the medium category with a
score of 56-75 or 42%. There are 2 students who got 10-55 in poor category a
percentage of 1.6%. The average score of grade XII SMK Negeri 3 Purwokerto is
77.8. The average score is included in the good category.
