Abstract

The background of this research was the students’ less maximum understanding skill on the learning process of fantasy story. The imlementation of the right lerning model can result in a good understanding skill on students and based on the issue mentioned before, this research implemented a cooperative learning model of STAD which aimed to improve the students’ fantasy story undersanding skill on the seventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Kembaran. This was a classroom action research with two cycles and each cycle consistend of two meetings. The research included: (1) planning, (2) acting), (3) observing, and (4) reflecting). the results showed that the implementation of STAD cooperatif learning model was able to improve understanding skill of the seventh graders of SMP Muhammadiyah Kembaran. The imrovement of knowledge could be seen froom the aspect of test assesment in wicth the students were able to answer the questions given bby the teacher either during the learning process of during the witten test. The completeness average score of the students’ written test on fantasy story understanding skill was 76,06 in cycle I and imroved to 81,,62 in cycle II. Thus, the improvement of student’ fantasy story undersanding skill from cycle I to cicle II 5,56% which showed that the implementation of STAD cooperatife learning modell was able to improve the students’ fantasy story understanding skill.
