Abstract
The study aimed to describe persuasive expressions and techniques, aspects and
effects of communication in the brochure learning course in the area of Purwokerto in
2018-2019. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The data in this study are
discourse brochures with persuasive discourse. While the data sources in this study
were 31 brochures from 21 learning courses in the Purwokerto area. The research
methods and techniques are divided into three types, namely the stage of providing
data, the stage of analyzing data and the stage of presenting the results of data
analysis. The stage of providing this data used the observational method of the
observation nonparticipatory method (SBLC) technique. This data analysis stage used
the dividing key-factors technique (PUP). The presentation stage of the results of the
analysis of this data used an informal presentation method, namely presentation
within sentences. The results of this study indicate that the persuasive discourse in the
learning courses in the area of Purwokerto in 2018-2019 is persuasive expressions
consisting of: (a) 5 persuasive expressions of invitation, (b) 5 persuasive expressions
of recommendation, (c) 5 persuasive expressions of command, (d) 1 persuasive
expressions of suggestion, (e) 10 persuasive expressions of affirmation, (f) 3
persuasive expressions of convincing. Furthermore, the persuasive techniques
contained in the learning course brochure services in Purwokerto in 2018 - 2019
namely: (a) 24 rationalization, (b) 47 identification, (c ) 18 suggestions, (d) 4
conformities, (e) 7 compensation, (d) 1 replacements. Then there are three aspects
and effects of communication in the brochure of the learning courses. namely: (a)11
economic aspects, (b) 2 moral aspects, (c) 3 religious aspects. These three aspects
have positive communication effects. Thus it can be concluded that the most dominant
in persuasive expressions is affirming persuasion because the writer emphasizes more
on the program offered to make the readers more interested in registering for the
learning courses offered. Then the most dominant in the persuasive technique in the
course brochure is the identification technique because the writer identifies the
program in the tutoring to make the readers more interested in registering in the
course. Then the dominant communication aspect in tutoring in Purwokerto is the
economic aspect because most of the courses discuss more about the economy than
other aspects.
