Abstract

The study aimed to describe the learner metacognition and autonomy in MAN 1 Banyumas. The research subjects were students of grade XI Science-3 and XI Science-4 selected from purposive sampling technique. The research method was descriptive qualitative. In this study, students were grouped based on their residence, namely traditional Islamic boarding schools, modern Islamic boarding schools, and non-Islamic boarding schools. Three students were selected from each group as the interviewed respondents. Data collection techniques in this study were a test of metacognition, questionnaire of learner autonomy, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis technique was Miles and Huberman in the form of data reduction, validation of the findings (triangulation test technique), data presentation, and conclusions. Based on the results, it can be drawn that: 1) There are differences in metacognition viewed from students' residence, 2) There are differences in learner autonomy viewed from students' residence, 3) There is a correlation between learner autonomy and metacognition.
