This research belonged to descriptive research which aimed to know the
students‟ grammatical error in writing recount text made by the second grade
students of SMK N 2 Purbalingga in academic year 2016/2017. The writer took
15% or 40 students from 290 of sample population. It was taken by using random
sampling technique.
The writer used an essay test to know the grammatical error made by
students in recount text. The result of this research showed that the mean of
students‟ achievement was in good category. It was proved by 70 as the average
of students‟ competence. The error divided into four classification for analysing
grammatical problems in writing recount text those are Sentence Pattern, Tenses,
Pronoun, and Preposition. The grammatical errors made by the students in writing
recount text were Sentence Pattern (33%), Tenses (54%), Pronoun (5%), and
Preposition (8%). The highest rank or the major of grammatical errors made by
the students was Tenses followed by Sentence Pattern, Preposition, and Pronoun.
