Abstract

The development of the construction industry in Indonesia is quite rapid. Almost 60% of the material used in construction is concrete. Various buildings, like houses, waterworks, and transportation facilities, are established using concrete as the main material. The concrete consists of fine aggregate (sand) and coarse aggregate (split), as well as cement and water added as auxiliary materials for the purposes of chemical reactions during the hardening process. In urban or rural areas there are a lot of old buildings which are renovated, so that there found waste of various building materials such as ceramics, both intact and broken. The research aimed to discover the compressive strength of concrete with ceramic waste as coarse aggregate substitute for concrete production. In this research, an experimental method was employed by replacing coarse aggregate with ceramic waste. A sample was made using concrete cylinders. Its diameter was 15 cm and its height was 30 cm. The experiment was conducted by testing the concrete after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. The results indicated that the average compressive strength of concrete with ceramic waste as coarse aggregate after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days were 7.26 Mpa, 10.94 Mpa, 12.26 Mpa, and 14.37 Mpa respectively. The average compressive strength of concrete in day 28 was lower than SNI DT-91-0008-2007, which is K-250 (fc' 21.7 Mpa).
