Abstract

The title of this final project is The Effectiveness of Round Table Model in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text. The objectives of this research is to find out whether or not Round Table model is effective for teaching writing descriptive text to the Junior High School students of SMP Negeri 6 Purwokerto. To achieve the objective of this study, the researcher conducted an experimental research at the seventh grade students. The object of this research are two classes, VII B class as experimental group and VII D class as control group with 34 students for each class. In this study, the researcher collected the data from the score of pre-test before treatment and post-test after treatment. The result of this study shows that the mean score of experimental group in post test is higher than the mean score of control group. The findings indicated that Round Table model had a positive effect on the students’ writing ability particularly in each component of writing. It can be seen from the total of mean score in pre-test was 46.51 to 72 in post-test. Besides that, the t-value (5.254) is higher than t-table (2.750) with the degree of freedom (df) of 33 (N-k = 34-1). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is significant difference of students’ ability in writing descriptive text before and after being taught using Round Table model. Thus, it can be said that Round Table model was effective for teaching writing descriptive text for seventh grade students in the academic year 2017/2018.
