This study aimed to describe the relation of vocabulary meaning between the
Sundanese and the Javanese in Bantarkawung Subdistrict, Brebes Regency and to
describe the causes of vocabulary growth in Bantarkawung Subdistrict, Brebes
Regency. It was a qualitative study. The data of this study were Sundanese vocabulary
fromthe speech of informants who resided in the village of Legok, Bantarkawung
Subdistrict, while the Javanese vocabulary was gained from the speech from
informants who resided in Pangebatan Village, Bantarkawung District. The study was
carried out through three sequential stages, namely: (1) the data provision stage, (2)
the data analyzing stage, (3) the data presentation stage. In the stage of data
provision, the method used in data collection was the conversational method with
experimental stimulation techniques and followed by the face to face conversational
technique, recording technique, and note-taking techniques as advanced techniques.
In the data analysis phase, it implemented matching method, followed by critical
element segment (PUP) technique. In the stage of presentation of the analysis results,
informal and formal methods were used in this study.
Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, the results of the Sundanese
and Javanese vocabulary meanings in Bantarkawung District, Brebes District
included synonyms and homonyms. Linguistic factors which led to the growth of
Sundanese and Javanese vocabulary were also discovered in Bantarkawung subdistrict
of Brebes Regency.
