Abstract

The aim of the research was to know the kinds of students‟ learning needs in English productive skills especially speaking skill. The research was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Banyumas with survey study as the method of this research. The sample of this research were 66 students from eleven grade and one English teacher. To collect the data from the research subject, questionnaire and interview were used. The questionnaires were distributed to the students to get the data about students‟ learning need in English productive skills. While, the interview used to collect the information from English teacher. After collecting data, the data was analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusion. From data analysis, it could be concluded that there are nine students learning needs in speaking as a productive skill: (1) motivation, (2) feedback, (3) learning in group, (4) punishment and reward, (5) video and pictures as the students‟ favorite media, (6) students‟ anxiety, (7) classroom management, (8) teacher‟s role, (9) game and discussion as students‟ favorite activities. To sum up, students‟ learning needs in speaking class cover both technical and academic matters.
