Abstract

This research was aimed at improving students‟ reading comprehension of descriptive text through Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR). The research was done at SMP N 2 Kalibagor. It used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted at VII B class as the subject of research. There were 30 students in that class, consisting 17 male and 13 females. It was conducted in two cycles with two actions in each cycle. The procedure of the research consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The writer used test, observation, and questionnaire for collecting the data. The kind of the test was pre-test and post-test that consisted of 20 multiple choice and 5 essay questions. From the result showed that CSR method was able to improve students reading comprehension of descriptive text in teaching reading. The average of student score in pre-test was 69.25. Then, the mean of post-test 1 was 76.08 and post-test 2 was 83.75. So, the improvement from pre-test to post test 2 was 20.93%. Besides that, the result of observation showed that 46.42 % of students were active in cycle 1, and in cycle 2 improved become 58.56%. Moreover, the students at VII B class enjoyed in teaching learning process by using CSR method. It supported by quantitative data that reached 88.33% of students chose yes column in questionnaire.
