Abstract

Moringa leaves have a good nutrition for health and role as an antioxidant with strong potential. The aim of this research was to formulate lotion preparation that utilize antioxidant from Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam.), besides to know the physical characteristic of the lotion which was good and did not cause toxic effects. Moringa lotion made in this study was as much as 3 formulas with the concentration of leaves Moringa extract is 0.01; 0.1; and 1%. Moringa lotion was tested for physical properties, qualitative antioxidant activity identification test by using TLC and dermal subchronic dermal toxicity test against white mouse. The results of the study showed that all the preparations of leaves-ethanol lotion extract, fulfilling the requirements of adhesion, dispersion, pH, and viscosity of the preparation loition. Lotion of Moringa leaves extract at 1% concentration had the highest antioxidant activity. For subchronic toxicity test, animals were divided into 3 groups: normal control group, negative control and treatment. Provision of leaves margin lotion extract with concentration of 1% was done every day for 28 days. At the end of the treatment, all the animals were autopsied and then observed their hematology, biochemistry and histopathology. The result of hematology and biochemistry showed that there was no significant difference (p> 0.05) to the treatment group. Next, for hepatocyte histopathologic observation in rat liver was found the existence of cell changes in the form of parenchymatic degeneration, hydropic degeneration, and necrolyte in each group, both in normal and group control group in the form of lotion treatment.
