Abstract

Used vehicle oil is a hazardous and toxic waste that is a result of the use of motorized vehicles. Waste from lubricating oil usually contains a lot of Fe. Activated carbon is a carbon material that is porous with a large surface area that is widely used for adsorbents. The chemical activation process using acids and physics by heating. The purpose of this study is to study the effect of variables chosen on decreasing Fe content after adsorption with activated activated carbon (1.5 M H2SO4). Variables varied were the concentration of activated carbon (5 grams and 20 grams in 200 ml of used oil), contact time (30 minutes and 120 minutes), and stirring speed (100 rpm and 250 rpm). Based on the research design, the number of experimental units in the study were 8 experimental units with 2 Fe content analysis. This research began with the activation process of adsorbent (activated carbon), adsorption process, adsorbent separation, and Fe analysis on used lubricants after adsorption After adsorption with used oil, used lubricants were tested for Fe content. Lubricant testing is carried out based on standards issued by the American Standard for Testing Materials (ASTM D5185) with an ICP or Inductive Couple Plasma device. `
