Abstract
This research aimed to investigate and reveal the number of individuals, variety, dominance of fish, and the quality of water in Pelus River, Banyumas Regency in 2019. This research applied the survey method with purposive random sampling technique to collect data. The sample was taken six times during January – June 2019, with the interval of one month on days (07.00 – 10.00) and nights (19.00 – 22.00). The sample of the fish and the measurement of the water quality parameter was conducted in three different research locations, namely Location I in Pandak Village as the headwaters area, Location II in Arcawinangun Village as the middle area, and Location III in Pajerukan Village as the downstream area. The results of the sampling were identified using Taksonomi dan Kunci Identifikasi Ikan (Saanin 1968; 1984) and Ikan Air Tawar Indonesia Bagian Barat dan Sulawesi (Kottelat et.al., 1993) books, and were verified at www.fishbase.org. The results of the research showed that the number of fish individually was 351 which were categorized into 17 species, 9 families, and 5 orders. The index of the fish variety was categorized as low, which was between 0.1 – 0.27 with an average of 0.16. The index of the fish dominance was categorized at a medium level with the predicted value between 0.0001 – 1.0000 with the average 0.318. This condition was caused by the dominance of one family, which was Cyprinidae. The quality of the water was categorized as good for the fish to live.
