Abstract

Solar UV radiation can damage the skin and cause premature aging of the skin (photoaging). Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) is an anti-aging agent with a mechanism as an antioxidant that can inhibit free radicals. Cosmetics that are marketed must meet the requirements of safety, benefit, quality, marking and claims. The aim of the research is to determinate anti aging effectiveness of THC and irritation test. The anti aging effectiveness test using pre-test post-test control group design was done topically in mice (Mus muskulus L.) by observing the anti aging parameters that including sensitivity, collagen content, elasticity, and water content using Skin Analyzer EH 900 U. Mice were ramdomly assigned to 3 treatment groups ( KNa, KPa, and day cream product X (THC)). Cream base as negative control (KNa), and ethyl ascorbyl ether as positive control (KPa). The dosing dosage is 2 mg / cm2, administered at 2 h before and 15 min after UV irradiation. The test process is done for 8 weeks. Irritation test using HET-CAM method. NaOH 0.1 N as Positive control (KPb), and NaCl 0.9% as negative control (KNb). Egg were ramdomly assigned to 5 groups (KNb, KPb, day cream product X (THC), cream base, and Ethyl Ascorbyl Ether cream). The data obtained were hemorrhage time, lysis time, and coagulation time were calculated using irritation score (IS) to get irritation index value. Based on statistical analysis of anti aging parameters, day cream products X (THC) before and after treatment differ significantly. Based on scores of all anti aging parameters, day cream product X (THC) has the same anti-aging effectiveness as KPa. From the calculation result using irritation score equation on irritation test, indicating that KPb has index of irritation equal to 9,03 which mean irritate. KNb, day cream products X (THC), cream base, and Ethyl Ascorbyl Ether cream has an irritation index which is 0 which means it does not irritate. So that the day cream product X (THC) is safe to use.
