Abstract
This research aims to describe mathematical connection ability viewed from
students' independence of learning in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Purwokerto. It
employed descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research was students from
VIIA.The students were grouped into three categories namely students with high,
medium, and low independence. Each category was choosen three respondents. The
data collection used was questionnaire, test, and interview. The results revealed that
(1) students who have high independence are able to fulfill the stages of
mathematical connection, (2) students who have medium independence are able to
understand the concept and procedural well. Then the students are able to categorize
on table well. Otherwise, students are not able to understand connection well, (3)
students who have low independence are able to understand the concept of exercise,
but in procedure case, there are still many unidentified answers. Some students with
low independence are able to make appropriate table. For the others, students are
not able to use the concept and procedure well to solve mathematical connection
exercise.
