The study entitled A Study of Food Business Names in Teluk and Berkoh,
Purwokerto Selatan Sub-district, Banyumas Regency aimed to describe the types of
meaning and naming of food businesses in Teluk and Berkoh,Purwokerto Selatan,
Banyumas. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data used 35 names of
foodbusinesses consisting of 17 names of food businesses in Teluk and 18 names of
food businesses in Berkoh.There were two data sources in this research, namely
primary data sources in the form of nameplates and secondary data sources in the
form of business actors. This research was conducted by classifying data based on the
type of food business so that the data obtained were more specific. The research phase
includes the stage of providing data by conversation methods with advanced
techniques in the form of face to face conversation technique, recording technique and
note taking technique. The data analyzing stage was done by using referential
equivalent methods using the technique of PUP (determinant element segment) with
referential sorting control,namely the determinant is the reality designated by the
language, then followed by an advanced technique in the form of HBS (same
interrelational method) technique. Then, the presentation of the results of the analysis
used informal presentation methods. The results showed that based on the results of
the classification of food service businesses, there were 35 data obtained from four
types of food businesses, namely snack bars, specialty restaurants, stalls and street
vendors. In the snack bar group there were 3 data with 3 types of meanings namely
(a) denotative meaning, (b) referential meaning, (c) narrowing meaning. Each data
may contain more than one type of meaning and 4 types of naming namely (a) the
mention of appellatives, (b) mention of place of origin, (c) mention of shortening, (d)
mention of family members. In the special restaurant group there were 5 data with 4
types of meanings namely (a) denotative meaning, (b) referential meaning, (c)
narrowing meaning , and (d) extensive meaning, and 5 types of naming namely (a)
mentioning shortening, (b ) mention of new naming, (c)mention of terminology, (d)
mention of hope, (e) mention of family members. In the stalls group there are 25 data
with 5 types of meanings namely (a) denotative meaning, (b) connotative meaning, (c)
referential meaning, (d)narrowing meaning , and (e) extension meaning and 7 types of
naming, each data can contain more than one type of naming, namely (a) mention of
appellatives, (b) mention of place of origin, (c) mention of shortening, (d) mention of
new naming, (e) mention of terminology, (f) mention of hope, (g) mention family
members. In the street vendor group there are 2 data with 4 types of meanings namely
(a) denotative meaning, (b) connotative meaning, (c) referential meaning, (d)
narrowing of meanig. Each data can contain more than one type of meaning and 2
types of naming, namely (a) the mention of the characteristic and (b) the mention of
terminology.
