The transformation of literary works has been currently done by poets, especially the
transformation of novel to movie. It is rare that a poem is transformed into a novel. It
may happen because of the difference of the form on the two literary works. The
transformation of poem to novel is empirically shown in Hujan Bulan Juni' poem to
Hujan Bulan Juni' novel. Those two works are written by Sapardi Djoko Damono.
This research is aimed at (1) describing the transformation of characters of Hujan
Bulan Juni' poem collection to Hujan Bulan Juni' novel and (2) describing the
transformation of settings of Hujan Bulan Juni' poem collection to Hujan Bulan Juni'
novel. This research applied the descriptive qualitative method with the contextual
approach. The data were collected by reading and taking notes. The data were
analyzed through three techniques, namely data reduction, data display/presentation,
and data verification. The results of the research show that there is a transformation on
the characters and settings of Hujan Bulan Juni' poem to Hujan Bulan Juni' novel. The
transformation of characters happens to Sarwono and Pingkan which affects their
characterization. The transformation of Sarwono is characterized as romantic, patient,
and doubtful. The transformation of Pingkan is characterized as patient and doubtful.
Meanwhile, the transformation of settings of Hujan Bulan Juni' poem to Hujan Bulan
Juni' novel is seen in the setting of time, place, and situation.
