the effectiveness of

xchange technique for teaching reading at the second ye
ar students of Junior
High School in Purwokerto in academic year 2015/2016. This research
used
quasi
experimental research and had been conducted from October 2015 until February
2016. The subject of this research was 72 respondents which were divided into
two groups, namely experimental and control class. In collecting the data, pre
-
test
and post
-
test were used to find out the effect of the treatment given to the
experimental and control class. The test given was in the form of objective test.
There were 3
0 items. Those were 15 items of multiple choices, 5 items of true
false answers, 5 items of jumble paragraphs and 5 items of short essay. The test
items contained six aspects of specific
reading
skill
s
. Those are reading for
specific information, dealing w
ith unfamiliar words, inferring, checking
comprehension, linking ideas, and understanding text organization. In analyzing
the data, t

test was used to obtain the result of the treatment. Based on the
computation, the result of t

test was 2.43056 while the

table was 1.6669
with df = 70. It meant that the result of t

test was higher than the value of t

(2.43056 > 1.6669) which showed that hypothesis was accepted. Thus, it could be
concluded
