Abstract

Students' less optimal motivation was characterized by lack of student participation in the learning process, less active students to ask during the learning process in the classroom, students' less attention to the material being taught because they were busy playing with their mate. There were still many students who did not complete the minimum completeness criteria. There were only 15 students of 35 students who had completed it. The study was aimed at improving students' motivation and learning achievement in theme 8 about Our Friends' Environment through learning model of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) assisted by cards as the media. It was Classroom Action Research which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. Each meeting was conducted in the allocated time of 6x35 minutes. The data were collected by using test and non-test. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The procedures were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting in order to know the weakness in cycle I. Therefore, it would not be done in cycle II. The result indicated that there was an improvement on students' motivation and learning achievement viewed from questionnaires in cycle I of 2.44 and in cycle II of 3.19. The result of the observation showed the improvement too. In the first cycle, it was 2.64 and increased to 3.60 in cycle II with a very good criterion. There was an improvement on students' learning achievement at least 80% from the total students who had completed the minimum completeness criteria in learning theme 8 which was 70. The learning completeness in the first cycle of Bahasa Indonesia was 61.42% and the mean score was 63 The learning completeness in the first cycle of Social Science was 65.71% and the mean score was 71.42%. The learning completeness in the second cycle of Bahasa Indonesia was 84.28% and the mean score was 84.71. The learning completeness in the second cycle of Social Science was 88.56% and the mean score was 88.14% with a very good criterion. Thus it can be concluded cooperative learning model of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) assisted by cards as the media is able to improve the students' motivation and learning achievement in class V in the theme 8 at SD Negeri 1 Sidabowa.
