Abstract

PTPN IX Banyumas Rubber Plantation has an area of around 1202 Ha. Rubber seeds from these plantations have not been utilized by the surrounding community. This is due to people may not know the benefits of rubber seeds and how to process them into alternative food ingredients. Previous research results indicate that, per 100 g, rubber seeds contain around 45.6% of vegetable oil, 15.9% of carbohydrates, 27% of protein, 32.3% of fat, and 3.96% of ash. Rubber seeds also contain a dangerous substance, namely cyanide acid (HCN) which is poisonous if consumed by humans. The content of cyanide acid (HCN) is around 330 mg/100g of rubber seed. Based on the statement above, this research was conducted in order to discover the levels of HCN of rubber seeds from PTPN IX Rubber Plantation in Karangrau village, Banyumas Sub-district through soaking the seeds in rice husk charcoal mixed with coarse salt and in the water which is then boiled. The method used in this research was Complete Random Design (CRD) with the treatment of soaking the seeds in rice husk charcoal 40% and 50%, in coarse salt solution 40% and 50% for 1.5 and 2 days, and in the water for 2 and 3 days then the seeds were boiled for 2 and 3 hours. The research data were analyzed using one-way anova with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that the lowest decrease in HCN levels occurred in the treatment of soaking rubber seeds in the water for 3 days and boiling them for 2 hours. This treatment made HCN levels in rubber seeds decrease to the average of 5.72 ppm. From these data it can be concluded that the HCN levels of rubber seeds can be decreased by soaking and boiling them.
