Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of thematic
card game for teaching English on descriptive text. This research was conducted
at SMP Pembudi Darma 1 Kesugihan in academic year 2010 / 2011.
Treatment was carried out on May – June 2011. The total sample this
research was 60 respondents. The respondents were divided in two groups, the
control class and experiment class. The instrument used was pest (pre and post
test).
To collect the data, the writer used test. The type of test was subjective in
the form of essay test. The test was evaluated by using novitas. Royal, 2009
measurement that consist of measurement in content, organization, vocabulary,
language, and mechanic of the text.
This could be proved by the result of t-test it was 2.183, and the result of
t-table with degree of freedom 58 was 2.021, then the writer consulted the result
of t-obtained with the t-table ad it was higher that t-table (2.183 > 2.021).
