Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Environmental Mnemonic Technique in teaching vocabulary in vocational highschool. This research used quasi experimental method which the sample was based on the school policy. The two choosen classes were LVE (light vehicle engineering) C as the experimental class dan LVE D as the controll class. Pre-test and post-test were used to collect the data. The test was in multiple-choice form consisting of 20 items for each test. T-test formula was used to analyze the data. The result of the research showed that there was a significant differences of the students‟ mastery of vocabulary between the students who were taught using environmental mnemonic technique and those who were taught using convensional technique. It could be seen on the result of computationof t-test, which t-result is 3,43 and t-table is 1,676 at the significant level α=0.05 in df=54. The result was higher than t-table (3,43>1,676). It means that the hypothesis that environmental mnemonic technique was effective to vocabulary mastery was accepted.
