Abstract

The main objective of the research was to improve students’ vocabulary in English teaching learning process through Charades game technique. The research was carried out at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 in Academic Year 2015/2016. The researcher took 8 th grade as the subject of the research. The research used Classroom Action Research. This action research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, questionnaire, interview, field note and test. Based on the result of data analysis, some conclusions were drawn. Charades game was able to improve students’ vocabulary in English class, its score improvement in post-test 1 was 4.29% toward pre-test. The score improvement in post-test 2 was 21.11% toward post-test 1. The observation result showed the total average of students’ activities in Cycle 1 were 18.89% and the total average of students’ activities in Cycle 2 was 48.15%. Thus, the improvement of students‟ activities was 33.52%. The questionnaire result showed 68.88% of the students gave positive response toward the implementation of Charades game. Overall, the research showed that the teaching vocabulary through Charades game could improve students’ vocabulary in English teaching learning process class.
